The Effects of Fashion on Women

Fashion has affected the lives of many women around the globe. Brands of various fashionable products often rely on casting young, extremely thin and overwhelming white skin colored models for their advertisements. According to them, fashion is supposed to be an aspiration for the viewers to achieve and if the models are not presented this way then people will not buy those products. According to a research, fashion industry is producing negative effects on the body images. The way the magazines, stores, designers and photographs portray women in the fashion world is almost impossible to achieve for an ordinary women.

The representation of extremely underweight models by the media is actually increasing the pressure on many teenage girls to cut down the amount of their food intake. Nowadays models are supposed to weigh twenty three percent below the average weight of a healthy woman. For healthy women, it is necessary to have weight between 140-150 pounds with a height of 5-10. Therefore, given this criterion of looking beautiful has created a lot of problems with ordinary women. A big factor contributing to this factor is the showing of ultra thin models in the fashion industry.

Nowadays, if women are offered a little bigger size of an outfit than their usual ones, they refuse to buy it. They pay more stress on shaping themselves according to the required size and in doing so they some times adopt unhealthy ways for loosing weight.

This criterion has not only affected the teenage girls but it has also brought a change in the eating habits of the women who were not used to think about their increasing weight. The production of clothes for size two models has brought a change in their lives and many over weighed women now want to reduce their weight. This must be done in healthy way through proper guidance.

But the emphasis of fashion industry on being extremely thin must not be accepted. The designers and models must be given proper education on the effects of eating disorders. Healthy food should be supplied during the runways and fashion shows. And above all, the sample size must be increased from two so that it does not negatively influence the ordinary women around the globe. The fashion industry can help in this regard by keeping certain weight standards for the models and woman who is pictured in magazines and photo shoots is normal and healthy to look at. This is to save those girls who in act of looking like these models have adopted the horrifying habit of starving themselves.
